This is a family sedan with all wheel drive 6 speed 270 hp turbocharged 2.3L 4 cyl. I tried one yesterday and it's a kick to drive. The turbo initiation in this sedan is a lot smoother in the MSM. Could you imagine this engine in a Miata?

Very nice cars, eh? My buddies dad has one and just loves it to death, but he got an early model when they first came out and has the annoying clutch on it. The one I testdrove when my MSM was in for an oil change was a blast, but had the easier clutch to modulate.
That motor would be great in a miata, if it werent for it being so heavy.

"So heavy"? How do you figure? It's the same engine architecture as the current miata uses, as well as basically every other four cylinder Ford or Mazda currently produced. Aluminum block vs the iron block in the BP engine that powers our Miatas. There would definitely be issues with installing one into an NA or NB Miata, but weight is really not one of them.

That iron block weights a ton compared to what we have in our cars!

The motor that we have in our cars is that Iron block. The MZR engine thats currently in the new miatas, speed 6 and 3 are aluminum. Its much lighter than the BP motors.

this is surprising....I've only heard the exact opposite. That our motors are MUCH lighter than the new motors in the MS3 and MS6

So apparently the mazda articles don't feel the need to mention block material...but at least here is the ford one for the Duratec/MZR being aluminum. If I had more time tonight I'd find you an article mentioning the BP being Iron block too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Duratec_engine#Duratec_23

I asked them about the weight since they are the only one seriously working on the MZR motors. One of the tech guys said they actually never weighed the engines but the MZR is a bigger engine so it could be as heavy as a BP motor since the motors on the speeds are 2.3 liters and taller than the BP. Oh BTW (off topic) they were able to push out 267rwhp N/A on c8 gasoline on their 2.3 motor for their mx-5 drift car. I just wished that they didn't have to have all that crap around the engine bay because that engine has so much potential since ford cosworth makes parts for that motor and I wonder what it do boosted.
