I went out & bought Keith Tanners Book a while back & last night while in my favorite reading place. I was reading the specs on the first Gen Miatas. The 1.8's output was listed as 116@6,5000 RPM's & 100 ft-lb @ 5,000 RPM. There is no rating for the 1.6 engine does anyone know the specs for that engine? I only post this here because I am looking for a second Gen Miata.

if your looking for a second gen it will have the 1.8. the first gen are the only ones with the 1.6, 90-93. and i was pretty sure the 1.6 had 116, the 1.8 had 138. not absolutley sure though. than in 01 it was bumped up to 142 with the vvt

Agreed but I can't remember what the HP rating for 1.6 was. I want to say 90 but not totally sure.

A 1.6 engine makes 116 HP at the crank. 1.8 engines started at something like 135 and increased through the years.

The book is not ging the HP output for the 1.6 but the 1.8 is rated at 116 HP at the crank. 99 it goes up to 128 2001 is rated at 140 & so on I guess it really doesnt matter being that I want a 1.8 just curious is all..

According to carpoint.com the 1.6 makes 116HP and the 1.8 makes 133HP and 140-142HP '99 and after. '06 and newer 2.0 makes 170HP.

In the USA, there are 1.6 NBs in other countries.

In the USA, there are 1.6 NBs in other countries. I think that's just Japan, but perhaps Europe too, not sure. I was just looking in NZ since I applied for a job there and they had later 1.6s, but they get a lot of their cars used from the JDM. I can't imagine driving a 1.6 NB!
