Hey folks. Figured I'd start a thread where I can track how my MSM changes across the months and hopefully years! Quick background for those who didn't see my intro thread: 04 VRM with just over 50k on the clock, all stock. Couple shots of the car on the day I took delivery, parked with my outgoing Scion tC. It was a good car, I miss it already... Today I received my first aftermarket parts in the mail! Knowledge is power... Mazdaroadster short shifter at stock height. Read the universal praise of the board and thought I'd get on it sooner rather than later! Hope to get it installed either Tuesday or Wednesday after work- check back for pictures. Hopefully I can track down some of the GM tranny fluid on the weekend as well. I also have a 5000k HID kit in the mail from DDM, they're located pretty close to me so hopefully those will go in before the end of the week. The next project will be getting my CA driver's license and getting the MSM registered tomorrow... wish me luck! Plans for the car? I'm still trying to figure it out. This is my daily driver to and from work, and I'm in California which means that ride height and CARB eligibility are concerns. On the other hand, I would REALLY like to get into autocross and develop my skills as a driver on and off the track. Upgrades will probably come in time with paychecks, and hopefully be driven by what I learn from autocross. Stay tuned for pictures/feedback of the short shifter install, and HID photos later in the week!

That's pretty funny, I went from a tC RS1.0 to the MSM! Congrats on the car!

Well folks, took a trip down to the DMV and the car is officially registered in my name. Passed the California written driver's test (not as much of a cakewalk as you might expect) so I'm a licensed driver in the state as well! Looks like everything is squared away. Today, my Miata took the journey out of stockhood with a MiataRoadster short shifter. Installation was pretty straightforward and the craftsmanship/instructions were top-notch. Did have something strange happen though- after I installed the new shifter, I was working through the gears to make sure everything was straight. For some reason it would refuse to drop into 2nd gear about 75% of the time. It would go kind of halfway into the gate - enough to barely be out of neutral - but the gear itself would not engage. I took everything back apart and checked my work, didn't really find anything out of place but reinstalled just to be safe. The problem was gone after that. Mysterious. Stocker Looks like my boots were worn out Stock vs. new I like to show pictures like this to my friends who don't work on cars. Terrifies them. So I guess those are the only photos I took, haha. The sun was setting on me and the new shifter looks stock from the outside, so you guys aren't missing anything. Shifter has a great feel now, nice and crisp. I like the feeling of precision, and I particularly like how nicely it tucks into 6th now. 3rd and 4th are also nice and tidy. Great recommendation from the board! Couple other items: in my last post I said that DDM is local to me so I should get those HIDs soon. Well, they might be local but the HID set appears to be shipping straight from China so it might be a bit longer than anticipated haha. No rush, gives me something to look forward to. I noticed today that my passenger's side door luck isn't working. It twitches when I hit the switch, so it seems to be receiving the signal, but it's not locking the door. Same thing happens when I use the key fob. Is the solenoid toast? How easy of a fix is that?

Check the door lock fuse in your fuse box under the steering wheel.

Very cool! Although it's not high on my priority list. I'm saving my $$$ for an FM down pipe, but I'm afraid that brake pads will be my next expense on my car.

I thought it would be easier to keep my particular questions in one place, but I will abstain from posting them here. I'll only post updates with pictures as they come.

Same thing happens when I use the key fob. Is the solenoid toast? How easy of a fix is that? I used to have a lot of trouble with my driver side locking / unlocking. So what I do is... - If it is unlocked, I quickly push the Unlock Button, then the Lock Button. (To Lock the Door) - If it is locked, I quickly push the Lock Button, then the Unlock button. (To Unlock the Door) Not sure if that makes sense, but it works great for me. ..

Yeah, that's why I've been holding off on exhaust and all that as well... I've got a smog check coming up next year, maybe I'll wait till after that. BTW the more you drive with that SSK, the more you'll enjoy it! I'm waiting to get some of that Ford stuff as well I look forward to your updates!

I'll take a look at the fuse box, thanks for the suggestion. For the short term I tried the rapid unlock-lock trick and it wasn't successful, sadly. Snagged a couple of fun shots from the office for you guys: An early production Karma.

Wednesday night update! Received my DDM Tuning 5000K HIDs today and got them installed, so far so good! I put an installation tutorial here for those interested: http://www.mazda-speed.com/forum2/index.php/topic,1066.45.htmlHere are the results: Compared to stock. Sorry for the photo quality, took them with my Droid. Not bad for a phone though. Terrific mod for $50, super easy install as well. 5000K is the perfect color for me, it's a nice bright OEM white. The next modification for me is going to be a Flyin Miata boost gauge in black, stay tuned!

Took the MSM up to Malibu along the PCH and found some amazing canyon roads. I love this car.
