Midlife Crisis on Wheels!

« on: October 01, 2015, 01:27:20 AM »

I've been battling gremlins on '90MSM all year and I thought I had them licked when I started it to load the trailer today.  After 5 hours of fussing, I determined I didn't like the way the injectors were behaving.  A new firmware was available for the old Adaptronic 420c that was reported to boost the output on the injector drivers so I loaded it.  '90MSM actually seemed to run better... for about 30 seconds, at which point the lights went out.  Dead.  Zero.  Nothing.  Not even a heartbeat to attempt to revert to the earlier version.  It appears the injectors were the symptom and a new ECU will be in the works for the winter.

I turned to the next garage bay and started speaking softly:  "Would you like to go play zoom zoom?  You've been to this track before and it was fun.  I know you won't be as fast as you used to be but if you will try, I'll promise to be careful and bring you home safe.  What do you say?  Are you ready for one last ride?"

I felt the acceptance from my old friend and quickly set about strapping some track wheels on.  I'll take care of some other prep at the track because I'm already late getting out of here.  Wish us luck!

This is outstanding.  But I'm nearly as happy to see a picture of your ambulance.  So great.

Hope you have lots of fun at Laguna Seca! What direction do you think you'll be heading for the new ECU?

Last time "blackie" went to MRLS, I had to fix her when you got home.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that things go better. And I'll clear out a spot in the shop in case it doesn't.

The ambulance is a work in progress but functional with a ton of potential.  On the ECU front, my tuner would prefer a Hydra and my bank account would prefer a Megasquirt.  We'll see which entity has more pull...

I have a bit more understanding on how the car comes apart and back together since 2010 but I'll come visit your new shop on a leisure visit soon!

Man, you just can't win....As much as it's a drag the 90msm isn't able to make the trip, at least you didn't have to take one of your daughters cars.

I'll make an ambulance thread when I get home. It's really working out well so far. The ailing ECU has been a mitigating contributor to most of the problems this year. I've spent the last two years worried about it so my hunch was true. Plenty of guys at MRLS to discuss ECU options with!

A Hearse would be creepy; ambulances save lives! Eventually, Hyde will be flying to the track in an Osprey.  thumup
