Title: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: Teamgym on October 13, 2010, 12:50:53 PM Is it a standard feature that you'll have to press unlock on the key twice to have the passenger door unlocked??
And is there any "pre-out" on the back of the stereo? Subwoofer... Thanks! Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: SilverMiataRacer on October 13, 2010, 12:52:28 PM Is it a standard feature that you'll have to press unlock on the key twice to have the passenger door unlocked?? Yup All my cars are that way Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: TurboToy on October 13, 2010, 01:10:56 PM Pretty much every car seems to have this rather useless feature. I think this feature was thought up by some marketing genius, touting it as a 'safety' measure. I guess on one hand, if a soccer mom is scrambling to get into her Escalade, perhaps it would thwart a crook from getting in through the passenger side. But a Miata... it's not like a thug could really crouch down and hide on the opposite side of the car. The thing is so tiny, the thug could easily step around the car or over it. I highly doubt this 2-step unlocking feature is of any value on the MSM.
I don't know about any sub pre-out. What I do know - that's a pretty tight trunk to go putting a sub in. Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: SilverMiataRacer on October 13, 2010, 01:13:56 PM Except they probably use the same locking module on other cars too and why spend the money to build a special unit to eliminate something like that?
Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: Teamgym on October 13, 2010, 01:23:03 PM Must be something unique for cars sold in USA, never noticed it on any car in Sweden...
And I got a really good laugh when I saw the unlock-handle INSIDE the trunk. Is it often people get stuck inside the trunk in your miatas?! :p Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: SilverMiataRacer on October 13, 2010, 01:51:23 PM It's in case you get kidnapped and put in the trunk you can open the trunk and jump out while the kidnapper is driving down the interstate at 90 MPG!! ::)

What kinda mods do you have Sir Silver? That's some kick ass fuel economy you're getting there. Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: SilverMiataRacer on October 13, 2010, 03:17:25 PM Okay Okay, I was on the phone and doing 2 other things. I clearly meant 90 MPH

Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: TurboToy on October 13, 2010, 05:17:49 PM Sgt... how do you know you fit inside the trunk?
Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: apagios on October 13, 2010, 06:20:31 PM Hey, I fit inside the trunk.... ask me how I know. More importantly Sgt, would you say you are roughly twice the size of a dead hooker? No specific reason for my asking, just curious. Some people feel the real utility of a car is judged by whether you can fit 2 dead hookers in the trunk. :P Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: SgtSpike on October 13, 2010, 06:37:28 PM It was a bet. I won, and got homemade cookies for it.
They'd have to be pretty freaking small hookers... Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: Teamgym on October 14, 2010, 07:56:15 AM Well, I slept in my trunk about a month ago. Didn't plan to drink that night and didn't have many options... I even managed to roll over and change side without open the trunk lid!
Lucky me that I'm a gymnast, but I had a lot of pain in my knees and legs from not being able to straighten them for a whole night :) (Please feel free to correct my english!) Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: scotty b on October 14, 2010, 10:23:39 AM You can definitely fit one living asian woman in the trunk of an MSM.
You can fit 2 dead hookers in the trunk, but you will need an ax or a chainsaw and a bunch of garbage bags (don't ask me how I know :dink:). You would be better off renting a larger, less conspicuous car. Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: Crapweasel on October 14, 2010, 12:53:41 PM Only the large GM car here (2008+ Commodore) has the unlock twice feature as far as I'm aware.
My '04 MSM and the SP23 are unlock all doors with one "click" on the unlock, but the trunk release on the key fob for the '04 MSM kicks ass in my opinion! My '04 MSM and the SP23 are unlock all doors with one "click" on the unlock, but the trunk release on the key fob for the '04 MSM kicks ass in my opinion! Hmm, interesting. What exactly about the fob's trunk release makes you say it 'kicks ass?' I guess the one thing that's maybe a tad unique - That 'CLUNK' when you hit the release it pretty daggone loud. So if you're far away, it helps to locate your car. The range seems fairly decent too. Other than that, it seems pretty ordinary. Many other cars have even nicer set ups - My Infiniti I30 opens up about halfway when you hit the button. A big help when you're struggling to hold a pair of dead midget hookers you need to stash in the trunk quickly. Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? MSM GT 05 Post by: demonsnake on October 15, 2010, 02:17:19 AM I agree that click twice to unlock is kinda stupid for the miata.. except for that fact that many MSMs have a bad door lock/unlock actuator (or motor, or whatever the thing that locks the door is called). For example, my door rarely locks when I pres 'lock' so I got used to manually locking my door as I exit my MSM. If I press twice on my fob and unlock both doors, I tend to forget to close the passenger door because I have gotten used to never locking my door with the fob. So essentially, the fact that only the drivers door opens with single press on the fob is good because mazda made such crappy locking mechanism for the MSM.
Two things that I can say are good with the trunk release button on the MSM. 1) It actually exists and works. My dad's 2001 Accord has the button, but you had to pay extra at the dealership to enable it. So my dad opted against it. 2) You press the button and the trunk will open. On my old nissan, you have to press and hold for a bit before the trunk will open. Now for useless features on the fobs.. what about the feature on my old nissan, if you press and hold the unlock button, the windows will roll down. If you do that accidentally, you'll have to go back to the car and manually put them back up, lol. Title: Re: Press twice to unlock passenger door? Personally I'll always go with two regular sized dead hookers...the problem with that approach, two hours later you're looking for more...before you know it you have four midget hookers in your trunk. That's gonna throw off the handling. At the least you better go with a beefier rear sway bar and dial as much negative camber as you can...you're going to need it! |
