Title: I think I need to sale the Miata
Post by: Just cruising on September 23, 2016, 07:27:41 PM
I have been struggling with back issues for the last year and I have came to realize the Miata agitates my back. I think I am at the point I need to sale it. It is a 2004 silver GT with 82000 miles. Over the years I have added the big enchilada kit and the UL6 15x8 wheels. I still have the factory wheels and new rubber on both sets.  Car is in good shape. What would be a reasonable price? Would I be better off putting it back to stock before I sale it? Looking for some help on this.

Where are you located? In the Seattle area, I see them going anywhere from $9-$12k generally.

If in the Philadelphia area,  I'd consider the purchase of the wheels.

Not trying to sale here, just trying to get idea of value and the best approach to sale. KBB values the car at about 7500 but that seems low to me considering I have installed the big enchilada and 2 sets of wheels? So I am wondering would it be more appealing to remove the mods and sale the car and parts separately? Has anyone purchased recently that is willing to share what they paid for theirs? I am thinking 9 to 10K would be a fair price. Just looking for opinions here not a buyer.

You're better off putting the stock wheels back on and selling the 6ul's separately. These are 12 year old cars and to expect to sell one for 9-10k isn't realistic.

So is the 7500 that KBB suggest realistic? I paid 13k for the car 5 years ago?

I would not say $7500 is realistic.  While I might have overpaid a bit, I just gave $11K for a 05 Lava Orange MSM with 77K.  One owner, no accidents, low miles, no  obvious mods other than a Autopower roll bar and Kenwood radio.  Also, while searching for this one, I don't think I saw too many MSMs under the $9K mark unless they had a ton of mileage or reported accidents.  Hope that helps.

You can get whatever you want for it if your willing to wait to find the right buyer who is willing to pay your price.  If you want the best return on your money then I would remove the wheels and sell them separately.  They are highly desirable wheels.   Then you should look up the value of your car by looking at KBB, Edmunds and NADA and average the price for the car.  Be realistic on the condition of the vehicle when you price it.  Add a thousand to the price you get and then be willing to be open to negotiating.  if you have no deadline then just price the car for what you feel you want for it and advertise the hell out of it and wait for the right buyer.  Might happen in a month or a year.  If you follow the first plan you should sell it in a reasonable time for a reasonable price.

I am not in a big hurry to sale and have many reservation about letting the car go. I love driving this car. When we go on vacation one of the first things I do when we get back is take the car out for a drive. I really do appreciate everyone's thoughts. I think I am going to take Larry's advice and price it for what I want and wait to see what happens. We have 3 cars so I don't have to drive it every day. Thanks to everyone for the help!
