Title: Still fighting rattles
Post by: Qwimby1 on October 03, 2016, 06:12:22 PM
Has anyone on this forum accomplished a truly rattle-free MSM, or has anyone even tried?  I realize it may be unrealistic but I keep trying.  Lots of Dynamat and Dynaliner, and going over every likely source still hasn't gotten it done.  My mistake was a brief flirtation with a BRZ coupe that handled beautifully but still sucked up the bumps quietly.  Before that I never noticed the MSM noises.

Nine years of having an MGB as my sole means of transportation taught me to classify rattles as "Normal" and "Not Normal." I unconsciously automatically applied that to the MSM when I bought it. I don't think it's possible to have a rattle-free convertible, especially one where the manufacturer has tried to keep weight to a minimum.

Decent head unit and a set of speakers, and there are no rattles  ;D

The delrin door bushings help a lot.

Age helps. I'm sure the car has rattles that I can no longer hear.

I'm beginning my quest to eliminate as many as I can.  For me personally the biggest rattles have been in the doors.  3 of the metal clips, holding the door card on, had separated from the door card, and my window regulator has a rattle inside of it as well.  Funny enough I also find that there are more rattles with the top up.  I'm sure some of that has to do with the wind noise overcoming them  :D

I'm going to order the door bushings.  Has anyone tried the OEM hard top brackets?
