Streets/speed bumps/curbs really aren't an issue. Guess now it comes down to price.

Where I live the problem is the "speed control devices" our mayor is so good at having installed on any street he gets a complaint about from the people living there.  They are narrow and come to a peak so your guaranteed to high side on them if your lowered.  Then we have the stupid driveway cuts/curbs that aren't lowered at the driveway.  I just scraped the front end on my brand new HHR leaving my driveway this morning.  Not exactly a lowered vehicle.

St. Louis, MO but as soon as you cross over to Illinois (where I rarely go), the roads are falling apart. Huge difference between the states. That's why I go west out of the city to the hilly country. Illinois is flat and boring. They've only salted the roads twice so far that I know of. Potholes have not been a problem like they have in the past. We just don't get the snow anymore like we used to, even 10 years ago.

But even with the lower H&R springs, they shouldn't rub on a 215/40-17 tire? I'm not worried about looks and how low the car sits. Just performance and price. FM springs 249.00. H&R springs 205.00. What extra I save goes toward summer tires and the full FM intake.

Hope you don't come through at least until April when we are clear of snow although the 20 something degree temperature does wonders for  acceleration! It's almost like I modded the engine but in reality did not. I can't imagine what the DP and intake will do with the current temperature!

The OEM Toyos constantly broke loose last winter but that isn't saying much. Though that was when I learned my lesson that I need an all season tire to survive. I absolutely hate having them on the car and I knew I would but it's only from late November until April 1st. I'm about to order tires while Discount Tire has free shipping.

Anyone who had springs installed, how much did you pay? My H&R springs came today and I was getting quotes for installation. I'm finding it is rather expensive. Also, was it a necessity to have an alignment to prevent faster/uneven tire wear?

about 2 hours labor so maybe 100 - 150 depending on the shop...why not try it yourself? and you should wait at least a week after you get the springs installed to get the alignment - lets the springs settle a little more and such.

3 places all quoted about the same. $450 to $500 w/out alignment. 3 hrs for the front, 3 hrs for the rear.

It's the same as doing shocks.  Dealer hours are 5.5 for all 4 corners so multiply that times the shops labor rate and that's what you should expect to pay.  Too much less and I'd worry about them lowballing you.  Too much more and they are cheating you.  Be aware that normal shops are not usually aware of how to do the job and you could get stuck with them charging extra once they find out how long it's taking them.

Installation would have been much cheaper with the sway bar. I would have rather gone with that first but I went with what was recommended. Installation costs is what my new tires will cost. How many people do them themselves? A friend of mine is a mechanic but I don't know if he has the tools to do the shocks since they have to be compressed so much. Or at least that is what I've heard.
