how could it not be functional? big vents that allow heat to escap. seems functional to me. afro I agree that it will extract some heat, but one way it could be better would be to have an additional inlet in the center/front of the hood like the FM Track Dog and Nopro hoods do. This helps force the air out the top. Both the corvette and viper hoods feature a functional inlet like this as well. Of course, something like this could be added to this hood after the fact too.

QQQQ,
If you throw that hood on, won't you want the belly pan back to maximize flow through the hood venting?
Also, is that the hood from the group buy or something else? It looks much simpler and cleaner.

This is one of the Racing Lifestyles new extractor hoods. I am patiently awaiting one of the first fiberglass ones. No,the underbelly pan does not have to go back on for this unit to work. I have one similar on my Focus, and can attest to the hoods ability to "lift" air out from the engine compartment by the venturi effect. It worked so well on the Focus I went looking for one for the MSM. FM is working on one for the NA..but Racing Lifestyles had one in the mold stage for the NB!.They are shipping now and I can't wait to get mine! I will be painting it VR to match my car. I really don't care for the look of the Chaser Aero....

Nothing mentioned about the weight or how it attaches? Let us know some of the details and if it is efficient I may consider purchasing. I'd paint it Ti of course and at the same time do my somewhat pitted bumper!

Does anyone know how such a hood works with the rain? my car is a daily driver and I have no choice in whether or not it gets rained on while away from the house.
I'm curious about this too, although moreso for washing the car than for rain. Seems a lot of water is going to dump in on the engine.

It looks like any water that does enter the scoops would fall just foreward of the engine, where the gap is between motor and radiator. Since I don't store my cars outside,I don't think about rain much in such instances.. Wash my car? I did that once...

definitely keep us informed. I, like you, didn't like the chaser unit, but at $375, this might be interesting.

I like the racing lifestyle but not for my car. It just looks too much like an aftermarket hood. Now if that same hood looked exactly stock with just the vent and nothing raised in front I'd be all over it.

Driving in the rain doesn't look like it would be a problem. Its the being parked part that has me worried. Is there any chance of hydrolocking the motor?

Unless your intakes is right under that vent I highly doubt. I had an Evo style hood on my old eclipse and ever had a problem. Even was in North Carolina at the where it rained constantly.
