That's pretty cool!  Be sure to keep the originals for resale value in the future.  They are unique to the MSM as you know.  Carbon Fiber is amazing stuff - probably stronger than the aluminum you took off at that thickness.   afro

Thanks! Had some CF already laid up trimmed from a different project. There is actually an aluminum piece behind that for stiffness. The CF is only 4 plies, about .040" thick, and just a slight curve to it, so the aluminum is definitely the part bearing the load in this case. It's about the way in which it's loaded. The CF there could lift a truck in tension, but in bending like that, not so much. The CF, though the real deal, is just aesthetic. I've thought about making some real ones with a honeycomb core where the CF is the strength, but to make the molds and stuff would be really expensive. Not to mention the cloth and resin and bagging supplies. Eventually I'd like to do that and make a whole batch and sell them.

Taken on a rare rainy AZ day

Also, a side note, I made a .dxf cad file of the outline of the dead pedal. If anyone would like a copy, PM me your personal e-mail and I'll send it along.

You had me at carbon fiber. Now my carbon fiber addiction is flaring back up again.  Cheesy Any plans for mass production of some trick parts?

Interested in anything in particular? I can make a prototype for mine and then figure out what I would need to charge for a batch of them.

A carbon fiber gauge hood, gas filler door, a-pillers with or without gauges, glove box & center arm rest would be neat & they would be able to be sold to non mazdaspeed miatas. A really trick idea would be the front MSM lip with a molded in extended splitter but something tells me it would be pretty expensive. I love the look of carbon but don't have the skills or equipment to make full carbon parts, just simple overlays and even those come out lacking details or real strength. My dabble in CF has been less than amazing.

Thanks. I like some of those ideas, I'll look into what it would take.

A carbon fiber extraction hood!!

I don't think I could do something that big without a serious tooling investment. I'd need a number of committed buyers up front before I'd even think about it.

So I'm coming up on my second oil change since owning the car and I am planning to do an oil filter relocation kit while I'm at it. I know the Thompson and FM kits are very popular but I wondered if anyone had tried a transdapt or summit or even an ebay kit, kinda like this one here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GSP-UNIVERSAL-10-ROW-OIL-COOLER-KIT-WITH-OIL-FILTER-RELOCATION-KIT-SANDWICH-PLAT-/390794006722?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5afd2350c2&vxp=mtr

same price as the FM, but includes an oil cooler. Engine temps are a big concern for me since I live in Phoenix AZ. It would be a fun project to build a duct since my passenger side fog light is smashed anyways. Might even try to find a fan to wire in just with a switch.

I know the FM kit will be a quality part, but just wondering if anyone had any luck with any of these more affordable kits?
