Ok, so I've searched until my head hurt, and saw several people mention this before, a couple times even directly to me:

Many of you mentioned connecting an aftermarket deck to an otherwise OEM Bose system, and it working fine. No Scosche adapter/harness necessary, and you simply keep the volume low because it's otherwise over-amplified and you can damage something.

So I have this Pioneer HU left over from my previous 01 Miata. I bought a 2003 MSM specific Metra harness (70-7903). I wire up all the power/ground/and speaker wires.
The unit turns on, functions perfectly, everything works, but NO SOUND.
I check all the fuses - all good.
I check all the wires from the Pioneer plug to the metra plug - all fine.
I re-install the OEM Bose deck - everything works fine, there is sound, no issues.

WHAT AM I MISSING?!

I even bought another deck thinking my old one may be toast, I wire it in, and same thing: everything works but NO SOUND.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Are you feeding the outputs of your deck into the Bose amp or directly to the speakers?  Remember the Bose speakers are 1/2 ohm and can't support something other than a Bose.

If your feeding the signal to the Bose amp are you providing the Bose amp with a power on signal it would be getting from the Bose head?

Factory Bose system uses line level everything, which is your issue. On an Aftermarket HU, you have to adapt your Pre-out's to the speaker wire plugs on the MSM side of the harness. There are external Bose amps for each speaker, the front ones are buried in places you'll never reach them. There is a cover on the sound bar, dead center on the back. That's where the rear Bose amp is hiding.

Without some extensive rewiring and replacing speakers, an OEM non-Bose will not plug in.

You either need RCA jacks on the MSM side of the radio harness (plugging them into the Line Outs on the HU) or you have to remove and jump out the Bose amps and replace the speakers, or run new wires to new speakers.

I'm a bit of an audiophile, and the Bose system appealed against my better listening desires. It was a pretty easy decision to get rid of it. Was a lot of work but worth every bit in the end. I can TRULY JAM OUT  dancenana 2funny :rock2: at interstate speeds now without muddy bass and distortion.

I had the same issue, fired up fine but no sound.  I believe the problem is that the Bose amps need to see/check remote amp power from the headunit.

Solved it by wiring the solid blue and the blue/white from the metra harness to the remote out from the unit.

My headunit was a Pioneer model MVH-X560BT and I used the same metra harness.  I ended up buying a Grom because I preferred the OEM look.  Let me know if ya wanna try my old setup and see if it works.

Probably this.
I also installed an MVH-X560BT in my car. Its an absolutely great head unit.
Wire the antenna power up to the amp and the power antenna pins.
It works fine without a line-level converter if you dont turn the volume above like 8 or 9.

I tried that, but as it appears I may have missed 1 wire (wired the blue remote wire to blue amp wire but it appears there are 2 going to 1? I need to double check)
Is the stereo bad?
Nope. Both the OEM and the aftermarket decks are good/known working.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for, thank you. I seem to have done everything the same, except where you did the 2 blue/white wires to the 1 blue remote wire, I only connected 1 blue/white to the 1 blue remote wire. Not sure if I missed the other one or what, but I'll have to double check that tonight. I'll post up if it works/doesn't work.

I saw your response, but it may have been too condensed for me to understand. I now realize your "jump the amp" comment was a very brief way of saying what svetki outlined for me in detail.

Thanks again gents, I'll try this out ASAP.

I'm sorry to report that I haven't even gotten around to re-doing this like above: actually I started and got sidetracked midway through. Been too busy tuning the car and then hitting the drag strip to even remember the audio. I'll be giving it another shot this week.

Is that Blue/white or blue/yellow? hard to see in the pic.

Heads up:

I connected Metra blue and blue/white to kenwood blue/yellow - no go.
I tried Metra blue and blue/white to kenwood blue/white - Works, but antenna goes up even when the CD player is running.

Good enough for now. Would it be bad to disconnect the power antenna in the trunk? I don't use the radio, but I want to make sure I'm not gonna fry anything because the car is trying to force current through a circuit that isn't closed anymore.

I disconnected the connector at the antenna in the trunk over a year ago. I haven't had any side effects except for the expected lousy reception.

Good feedback, thanks.
You can unplug antenna in the trunk, takes 5 seconds, no ill effects.
I do this on all my NB's because I never listen to the radio and it looks like a silly RC car with the huge antenna sticking out
