'05 MSM - Black Mica

« on: October 08, 2015, 02:39:31 PM »

I am putting a new Kenwood head unit in with preamp outputs.  Crutchfield install instructions uses a "matching" box, for lack of a better term to connect the head unit to the Bose amps.  I am wondering if the preamp outs can be connected to the Bose amps?  I have Clearwater speakers, so I can't ditch the Bose.

There are Clearwater speakers for non-Bose systems too.  Can you return those and get the others?

No, I could probably sell them and get new ones.  They sound awesome.  I did some homework and there is a box that Scosche makes model SLC4 that connects the Kenwood to the BOSE.  It's what crutchfield recommended and that is what I have on order.  It is amp to amp, not preamp to amp, but that is what the BOSE wants.

If you already got the Scosche line adjuster just use that and don't worry about the preamps on your head unit. Then you don't have to worry about another harness or doing any splicing to make coax connections to plug into your head unit.

It just goes against general engineering principals to pre-amp to amp to Scosche to amp - in the Bose lowers voltage in bose to  feed bose amp.  Lots of opportunities to add distortion and noise. Seems like pre-amp out to pre-amp in should be how it is wired for best sound.

Reality is,  I am going to use the Scosche box and keep it simple on me.   Just doesn't seem right somehow.

It is really just a cheap work around. It's really the only option with an aftermarket radio and the resistance that the Bose speakers are. I have that Scosche box in mine with an aftermarket radio, and it seams to work fine. I only turned up the line out dials about 1/4 of the way.

I just ordered a new Kenwood head unit, 8" door speakers, foam speaker cups, rear speakers (5.25"), and all the wiring and install hardware including the scosche box for $200 shipped.

Just a though.

Are you retaining the BOSE amps?  They need 1/2 ohm speakers.

No, just running off of the head units power.  The bose amp is junk.  I'm going to use the existing wiring thought by jumping the amp connector pins.

Can someone clarify why the BOSE amp plug needs to be re-wired with bypass jumpers if the amp is not going to be used?

I see it in the FAQ here

You just reopened a year old thread to ask a question about a 4 year old thread in a forum that will be locked in 2 weeks.

Why don't you start by looking in the audio section on Miata.net and if you don't find the answer start a thread there
