Hello All,

I have a 2004 MX5 Mazdaspeed Velocity Red machine since new with no issues for 12 years until I put it in storage for 6 months with the battery cables off. Vancouver, B.C. rainy climate over winter. Now the audio system, cabin lights, warning buzzers & fog lights don't work. All fuses in both fuse boxes are fine and other than the mentioned power problems all other systems are working fine.

Do I have an electrical distribution problem, corroded contacts or a problem created by humidity while in store.
Desperate to play those 50's-60's tunes!!

Rodents have been known to chew on electrical wiring, so you might add that to your list of probable causes.

Many (most?) fuses have access to the two legs through the top of the fuse body. I would start by probing the fuses involved with a voltmeter to make sure they are getting power.

Hello Newport, WA great cruisin' country.

Thanks for the info which makes sense but I am not high tech. I'll wait a week, bite the bullet and take it into a local Mazda dealer. If you are ever in Vancouver contact me for a coffee stop.

Never Ever take your car to the dealer, especially for something like that.  You need to find a Mazda/Miata shop in your area or at the very least a good automotive electrical shop and take it to them.

I would be especially wary of taking a car with electrical gremlins to a dealership, unless I knew the mechanic that was going to do the work, and trusted them to get to the bottom of the problem efficiently. I could see this resulting in 4 to 8 hours of diagnostic work if the guy is just the typical parts-swapper.

Being that I used to work at a dealership, this can definitely be true! There are few people that are good with electrical, and of those people that are good at it, nobody actually like it (at least the many auto techs that I know). Pair that with techs that get paid flat rate, and they'd rather throw parts at it to "save time". They'd much rather be working on common repairs, or "gravy" work (i.e. tune ups, service intervals) that can pay them 2-3x more they what they have into it, time wise.

If you are in Vancouver, WA,   you are fairly near Adrenaline Racing.   These guys are the miata go-to guys in the Portland Metro area.  They are in Lake Oswego, OR,  about 30 minutes from Vancouver.   and  They will help you get this sorted.

Thanks for all your replies. I no longer feel so all alone in the high tech world.  It's Vancouver, B.C. Canada and I did find an independent Miata specialist in North Vancouver that I will visit next week.
