Finally installed the HN 2.7, purchased the FM recommended serial/USB interface Verified all connections, open the tuning software , ignition on, hit "connect" and software shuts down. Battery fully charged, no error messages but it appears that the EMU is not responding. Running on an older laptop with windows vista. Anybody have similar issues. Memorial Day weekend so no hope of contacting FM. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to start with something basic, but are you sure the Hydra has power?  If it does, it should light the CEL when you turn the key to On.  Not sure the software would crash if the Hydra WASN'T alive, but then again....Vista.

There won't be a code. The Hydra doesn't know anything about codes. The CEL is simply an indication that the hydra has power. (Though the CEL will also light up if the excessive knock threshold is exceeded.)

Anyway, it sounds like the Hydra has power, which is good.

If the software is crashing, it mite not be the serial interface. I had initial issues trying to get mine to connect, but it wouldn't crash the program. Just had a confliction issue with the serial port. The laptop I'm using for the Hydra is an old one also. Just barely fast enough to run Windows 7. Originally was a XP OS computer. But this laptop is designated to be used only for the Hydra now.

That's the one they sent with your Hydra?  Because it's different from the one they used to recommend (before it was included).

Continue to think/agree that it's starting to sound like a glitch with the laptop. Can you try a different/more modern one?

Thought I would be better off using the older laptop.... the only other laptop I have avail is an Acer running win 10, not sure if hydra software runs under win 10. I'll give it a try, nothing to lose.

It runs fine in Windows 10. Even (in my case) when dual-booting on a Macbook Pro (assuming the right drivers for the USB adapter are installed).

Had occasion to swap emails with Ken Hill yesterday and he suggested this adapter that he uses. If anyone else is having issues they should consider it. Ordered mine yesterday.

Getting frustrated now... found an older laptop, win XP pro with a serial port. Turn on ign, indictions are EMU has power (CEL on)
open engine tuner and it immediately closes. Per the HN instructions tuner should detect the emu and attach. Also tried opening tuner first and then turn on ignition and hit "connect." In this case nothing happens, no connection to EMU.  Any help would be appreciated.

You may need to fiddle with which com port the Hydra software is looking for the ECU on. Using a USB adapter, I have to make sure the software is set to look for the Hydra on COM3, even though there's nothing on COM1
 or COM2

Serial port is COM1 and tuner software shows COM1.
