I had some issues with this also when I got my hydra back from the 2.7 upgrade. I had to fiddle around a bit with when the usb->serial was plugged in. I found that sometimes it was better to have the serial plugged in to hydra but disconnected to the laptop. ign on, then connect the usb and it would automatically connect. I never had success manually clicking the connect button. COM1 should only be for your XP laptop with serial, USB->serial will likely be COM3 or higher. Often COM1 and COM2 are reserved for physical serial connections.

Thanks, I thought my problems were related to the usb/serial issue BUT, I'm having the same issue now that I'm connected serial to serial using an older laptop with win XP Pro. Same result whether I open the tuner software first and then turn on ignition or whether ignition is on and I use the connect function after opening the tuner software.

Have you tried seeing if the firmware updater will connect? Its a different program.

I did not, followed the video here and just assumed the updater wouldn't work since tuner couldn't connect, will give this a try. Thanks

No success connecting. Contacted HydraEMS and sent unit to them for diagnosis....preliminary findings, both processors burnt out $900 to replace motherboard if it can be repaired + replacement harness. Waiting on final analysis.  NOTE TO SELF: do not buy used electronics

Finally installed the redone Hydra , new wiring harness, and O2 sensor yesterday... started on first try! Liking the way it runs so far, now to reschedule my appointment with Ken Hill, can't wait.

Nice! That's how it should be! Let me know how it goes with Ken, even though I've only heard good things. When I'm ready that'll probably be the way I go.
