Just curious if this would be a big turnoff for diehard MSM folks.  It's just sitting on there now but I'd like some opinions before I start drilling.  It's functional for one thing and I think it adds a nice GT flavor.

Point well taken and duly noted. I'm curious how many MSM purists would be turned off if I ever try to sell the car.  I have one of those ugly, ubiquitous removable ones that stick up 6 inches above the deck lid, but they're too big to carry in the trunk and I would never run around all the time with one installed, so if you need it and don't have it you're screwed.  These OEM racks, BTW, are VERY hard to find.  Took me a couple years to get this one, but I'm going to think hard before drilling the deck lid.  I also have a Curt invisible hitch which has come in handy several times.  I've pulled two motorcycles with a combined trailer weight of close to 900 pounds with no problems. (If you know what you're doing.)  All in a day's work with a MSM DD.

Don't like luggage racks on any sports car.  Even less on an MSM.

Put on an APR wing and strap your luggage to that...Luggage racks are more of a British Sports Car thing. They were necessary as the boot was usually filled with spare Lucas electrical components and Whitworth wrenches.

Turbo clocked downward, new i/c plumbing

Another vote against the rack. The only way I would buy a Miata with one of those would be if it was installed in a spare trunk lid, with the original VIN-marked trunk lid installed on the car.

And even then I would probably leave it with the seller.

OK, the verdict is in.

The reference to Lucas reminds me of the time my Jaguar XKE voltage regulator went out in the Utah badlands and I had to find a place to recharge the battery every night to keep us going the next day.

Why do the British drink warm beer?  They have Lucas refrigerators.
