There is probably no reason for you to have researched this, so I suspect you aren't aware just how much better the NB cylinder head and cams are. Swapping the NB cylinder head assy onto a 1.8 NA was typically a ~20 whp (and coincidentally ~20%) gain. BTDT, got closer to 27hp, but I could tune for the improved flow.
Sorry to have gotten this far off the topic, but your insights are valuable and I thought they might, in this one instance, benefit from just a tiny bit of fine-tuning.

I wish there was a way to find whether or not the author was referring to an NA 1.8 or an NB 1.8. I assumed, that based on the date in which the book was written and released that he was referring to the 1.8 NB.
..."The new 1.8"... That is an assumption though on my part.
All this said, on an Normally Aspirated motor that lacks factory variable valve timing, and has no aftermarket head-work done, it's rare to see Volemtric Efficiency exceed even 95%. I think that the 92.6% calculated for the MSM is realistic, if not a tad optimistic, but 'tis the #'s I got.
