The MSM Bose system uses 1/2 ohm amps and speakers instead of 4 ohm.

Yea i called a local stereo place and they said i would have to get new ampilifiers atleast and maybe new speakers. He explained it like this to me : its like a puzzle and with out one piece of it, it might not work so . It could take changing all the peaces or just one it was one of those things he said he would have to deal with and sound quality could be affected if you didnt change the speakers also. so i guess that answers all my ???

I replaced the Head Unit on my Bose set on my LS... I just selected the Head Unit I wanted at Best Buy and drove around to their shop and they installed it. It required a BOSE specific harness. Everyday thing for the Best Buy installers. What I would really like is a 6 cd changer module that could handle mp3s like is available as a dealer installed option for the NC.

Am I one of the few people who doesn't mind the factory sound system? I mean, I don't have the rear head speakers anymore and aside from the door-rattle, I'm pretty content.

We find the Bose to be fine for our needs and wants. Afterall I'm driving a sportscar not sitting in a sound studio and I'm in the car to drive!!!

One of my local stereo shops (who I trust) said they bypass the Bose amps when installing aftermarket head units. They say this will allow the factory speakers to work, but they can't garuntee the sound quality. He recomended changing the door speakers as well. Also, I think the stock setup is ok. Not great when cruising down the highway at 70+ mph with the top down, but decent when cruising downtown at 35mph or so. I plan on eventually replacing the whole system with a new head unit and some JL components for the doors.

I can't imagine the speakers working well without the Bose Amps. The speakers are a special resistance, very low, not compatible with standard units. That's why standard speakers aren't compatible with the Bose amps.

I know we are suppose to be discussing the HU here, but I think it does a decent job. As AquiaMSM pointed out, 6 disc changer gets the job done. However, I do intend to replace the OEM Bose speakers with Clearwater's version down the line.

I put the clearwaters in shortly after purchase as I was not happy with the muddy equalization. It's plug and play, easy enough that even I could do it and as long as you dont put the screwdriver through the speaker, you're good to go. I was very pleased at the difference though obviously its an absolutely subjective experience. And the folks at clearwater are very helpful if you do need it. Got them on sale for $100 off and for me they've been worth it.

Really? I live right next to the interstate so the topless 80mph cruises are common for me. Even with my exhaust and no rear speakers, I have no problem with the sound quality. Tremble - 0 Bass - +2 Fade - 0 Balance - 0 Top Dwn 3 Setting Volume - 20

We had these settings: Tremble +3 Bass +2 Fade/Balance 0 Top Down 2 (3 is too aggressive, maybe keep it for when I change the exhaust) Volume 18 My wife and I both enjoyed our tunes the whole way.
