Found the SIRIUS add-on for $285 on the web: http://tinyurl.com/b5xutSame model number as Rosenthal and Mazda Stuff list for the Miata. Rosenthal's installation PDF seems to show that the MPV uses the same model, so sounds like it is the same...

I spent $20.00 and picked up an FM modulated unit. I then sort of Medium-wired ( haha ) it to the car and life is good.
I'd still like to hear how much of a difference, if any, there is between the hard-installed, $300.00 receiver and this 20.00 Wal-Mart Special, but it sounds pretty good to me, at least as good as I'd expect with a drop-top.
Sure I'd rather not have to have this thing sticking out up top on the dash and I went with the smallest unit they had ( the single line, scolling text model, I have the 6 liner in my Altima ), and could care less about that much anyway, I just want my Area 33, NFL newscast, BBC Radio One and Raw Dog Comedy!

Think I've decided to go with the built-in unit, but going to wait a couple months. In the meantime, I picked up the radar-detector sized "Sirius One" unit. I'll use that to decide how well I like Sirius first. Then when I put in the built-in unit, I'll put the Sirius One in my other car or sell it on EBay.

If you want to install any aftermarket products (IPOD, Sat, etc) buy the plug in box from PEI. It will cost about $80 and will work perfect (I have one in my 2005 with the BOSE) It takes about 5 minutes to install and will allow you to play your audio through the BOSE with zero interference. Push CD once and it plays CDs, push it again and EX1 come ups and what ever you have connected plays.

Sure Mike, I said PMI but I ment PIE, The PIE Box is the MAZ/PC-ALP. It does convert directly to ALPIN with no extra plug needed (thats why it says ALP) but for my application I bought the cable that has a regular head phone plug for my Sirus Sportster). On one end it has the plug that goes into the box and on the other end RCA's or a head phone plug depending on which one you order. The MAZ/PC-ALP plugs directly into the 16 pin plug in the back of your stereo (2003 and up) and takes about 5 minutes to install. I chose this route because I did not like the sat controls on the stock head (it just was not designed for it) I will post a few pics later to show you how it looks. Also there is plenty of room to mount the box behind the stock head. Crystal clear and it works perfect. Here is the info from PIE. 2003-UP MAZDA TO ALPINE/AUXILIARY AUDIO INPUT USE WITH PIE PART # ALP/M-RCA FOR AUXILIARY AUDIO INPUT (RCA PLUG) You can buy one with a headphone plug or one just for an IPOD CONNECTS TO FACTORY: 16-PIN AT HEADUNIT The website is www.pie.net

Any comments on alternate locations for the antenna for the Sirius add-on? I'd rather not have it stuck on the body ahead of the trunk. Fredz43's location on the storage compartment sounds better altho I cover that whole center console with a piece of lamp skin. I would think the signal would make it thru that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I swapped out the dealer (boulder sized) antenna for the low profile Sirius that comes with most of the plug and play systems. This required an adapter for the connector because the old antennas had one lead and the new ones have two or vice versa, but that only costs $30 or so from somewhere like Hi Fi Buys.
I have mounted the low profile antenna right up against the front windshield in the exact middle of the dash (right between the defrost vents). If you look at it there is actually a pop out plate right there. If you're so inclined and wanted to take the time to go on a treasure hunt, you could probably even run the wire up through that plate. I, however, just ran the wire from the trunk through the small hole just behind the passenger side seat and behind the carpet, under the door sills and up and around, tucking everything very neatly out of site of course.
The thing works like a charm.
Also, if you are going to do your own install.....when the dealer installed the receiver they ran the rather thick wire all the way down the side under the door sills and behind the glove compartment. When I re-installed it I simply took it right underneath the center console directly up and into the head unit.
Hope all of that helps.

Does anyone know for sure if our HU's with version 1.61 will work? Ive read that I need 1.62 on my HU but calling Mazda USA, and my dealer no one could verify this. I also have read forget version its just the SAT button we need.
Anyone know the truth, and if so do I install Sirius kit and when it don't work go to dealer and let them figure it out? They usually know less than our BB members here

This isn't pure MSM content, as the car is a '95 Miata, but my antenna is mounted inside the rear spoiler. Total stealth.
Someone speculated that you could run wires through the square access plate in the center of the dash. Nope. The only hole under that plate is for one of the screws that holds the dash in. The coax connector would never go through.
