Sounds like a quailty trained dealer to me.   rolleyes

No, you can buy a pretuned box.  basically hopped up stock settings. Hyperchip use to do the same back in the 80's you need a dealer to cahnge it. If all I do is a DP, it would probably be a nice addition.  If I ever do injectrs and turbo upgrade it would need to be retuned

granted the cost per hp ratio is still REALLY good with this thing.... However, If these guys cant raise my rev line, Im gonna save up for that hydra puppy Smiley

SMR, I called the place you refereed me too.  He sells a lot of unichips and swears by them.  He thinks they are the best thing since the hamberger bun. Admittedly he has not sold any for the MSM but for may other application.  He sells a lot for minis. according to him, the average MSM owner with basic bolt ons, i.e exhaust, DP, CAI will be more than happy with the tune that comes on the chip. Only when you do the turbo upgrade and bigger injector would you need a retune. He says it handles time and bigger injectors with no problem.  He said in some applications it will raise the rev limit, he was not sure on our car but would check for me. I've found 5 places within driving distance for me, I think I will likely give it a try.

Wouldn't it have the rev limit of the stock normally aspirated ECU? Isn't that set in the ECU, if it's a full replacement ECU I'd guess the MSM rev limit would go away when you removed the stock MSM ECU?

This is NOT a standalone ems. This is piggy back, basically a signal interceptor / modifier. It would act the same way as the Xede.

Nevermind then. I was confused.

Why even bother then, there seems to be much better piggyback options out there.

FYI, the unichip seem to be a very cost affective option depending on you needs. I've talked to a lot of people about it.  It will do what it claims according to some very reputable people in the business.  The problem, only authorized dealers can tune with it because they are the only ones that have the software needed to tune. So, if you plan to do a lot of upgrades you are forced to keep going to the authorized dealer.  Secong, if you don't have a unichip dealer near by, you are screwed when you need a re-tune. If you know exactly what you plan to do to you car, and you don't plan to deviate from that, it "could" be worth it. IMO, it's not worth the hassle.

I (obviously) don't know the product well, but what's the advantage over an eManage?

If you mean the emanage ultimate...the unichip plugs directly into the ECU plug. It plug and play, other than that, probably none.  In the end you'll likely spend the same anount of money.  The unichip is around 500-600 $, after a good tuner gets you sqaured away you will have spent another 500 most likely.  With the E-manage, you can pick them up for around 5-600 $ on ebay, plus another 250ish for a harness, and you can tune yourself or take it to anyone who knows how to use it. Fuel maps from one software to the next is not that much different, so if you have a good local guy, he should be able to figure it out. I was pretty set on trying the unichip but decided it was more trouble than it was worth, even if it works well, I'd have to drive 6 hours to get to a tuner that really knows the system. Every time I need another tune because I added another performance part, it could get expensive and time consuming. I have a guy 2 miles from my house that is great with E-manage.

hey dude, I actually talked to a tuner around here (guys place is called "synapse motorsports" quite good!!!), they hate the thing. They had one guy try it, and they HATED tuning it! They actually gave up their sponsorship! (IVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT!) lol. They did talk up the E-manage.

Haverty, just becasue they didn't like it does not mean it's crap.  I found some that hated it and some that loved it.  I talked to 4 tuners, 2 loved it, one hated it, and one was neutral.
