#178 Ti checking in.

I was actually surprised that mine was such an early production model.

My ECU tune seems to be remarkably trouble free.   Shocked

Is there a way to check to if the dealer performed an ECU update at some point?

I am the second owner.

The ECUs had several revisions but none were specific to a given model year. There are good ones and bad ones but which are which remains a mystery to the community.

I wouldn't word it that way

There were different versions of the ECU but nothing is an update.  You can't go out and get a certain version ECU for your car because it's "better" than the others.

Versions instead of 'revisions' is a better way to put it. Stephanie is the only person who has had her hands on enough ECUs to comment on the differences but those details remain a bit of a mystery. If we knew the part numbers for the good ones, you could target those on a purchase or use the info to understand why your car runs bad.

But then you get into immobilizer issues.  Honestly I don't think the tune in any of the factory ECUs is worth the time trying to get a "good" one.

You must have a good one.  Ex mrs_hyde's and my MSM are two completely different cars.  After driving them back to back, I started modding the black one but with both bone stock it wasn't remotely close to the same power delivery on the butt dyno.

I don't have a good one but I just don't think the factory ECU is any good in any of the flavors out there.  Some maybe better than others but I don't think any are worth the hassle of trying to figure them out and get them to work with the immobilizer.

I was always curious about this and I thought I would look it up before I got around to putting up an ad for the car - I thought it might be a neat thing to do.

Anyway... I just found out my 2005 is #2! [JM1NB354X50411104] Cool!

I've got number 1156 in Alaska. We drive her mainly to car shows and local Miata club events. Then it's into the garage and covered for the winter.
