Vin number decoding.
I washed the Vin 2005 Vin Number data through Excel and sorted the dat by vin #. There seem to be only 11 different Vinvarieties.
JM1NB354050411113 for example the 0 ( zero ) seems to be the only digit that changes. They range from 0-X. And of course the last 5 digits change. I am assuming they refer to the production run, but could be reffering to something more. Does this help this thread?
Mine has a '9' and is a MIca Black w/ Cloth top
Mine has an '8' in that slot and is also Black Mica, GT. (cloth top)

6 in that slot.
Black Mica, non-GT. Think we can conclude that slot is not determined by paint color.
My last 5 digits are 13268. I notice that mannequin and I both have a 1 in the 5th slot from the end (the first of the other changing slots), and both have black mica. Could that slot determine paint? Does that fit with others of you?

According to the service manual that number is used as a check digit and has no meaning other than being a check digit.

Thanks for the informative post. I knew our MSM was #3838, but did not know that it's the 7th to the last one built in '04. We now have about 8K mi on it and it runs like a charm and makes truly wonderful exhaust sounds now that the full FM turbo-back exhaust is fully broken in after a 2K trip to Monterey, CA and an incredibly fun track day at Laguna Seca.
That is one awesome track to run and while I was a bit tentative with my driving (frankly as an Intermediate driver I was a bit intimidated by that track) I did have an absolute blast despite getting a very gentle tap from behind and spun out while entering turn-4 (no bumper or sheet metal damage but did very slightly bend the left rear Enkei RPF1wheel on the FIA apex curb as I spun over it). I will be back!!!!
Except for the FM exhaust, the car is stock and is one heck of a nice, fun, and very well balanced machine for road and HPDE days. Can't wait to get the new 225/45/15 Toyo R888s on the recently delivered 15/8 6UL wheels mounted on the car. The wheels are black with silver lip and should look great with the Titanium Gray Metallic.

How can 3838 be 7th from the end for 2004 when all of the 4000 cars were built in 2004??

I did not see the second page in the PDF file and jumped to the unfounded and irrational conclusion that the rest of the cars were not shipped for some reason. It's hell to get old but I continue to plod happily on, blissfullly unaware of what's going on.

So in the US, there's a total of 5,428 MSM's (2004's and 2005's together)...right? Is there a list to somewhere to see how many of each color were made in those year in the US? I'm just curious to know since I've got a lava orange one...and I keep hearing that there wasn't a lot of the lava's made...and I have no idea where to find information like that out...any help would definitely be appreciated.
