I forgot all about the fact that I originally posted this almost 4 years ago. Makes me wonder what else is floating around out there I forgot about. The real question is how many cars on these lists are no longer with us.

That's a good question. Is there a database for cars totaled and/or no longer on the road? There were only 5428 MSMs ever built. How many are left? -h

True, I always wondered how Keith and the boys justified tooling up for a maximum potential of 5400 cars. It's not like engineering an intake for a Honda Civic that you can 100,000 units of... -h

What would be cool is if we could get some sort of certification from mazda as to the rarity and your production number. And not just within the 2 years but also within your particular color as well.

I've seen a list floating around with colors by VIN. The Orange and Black '05 are the most rare. Red is the most common in both years. I'm still curious about how many are still on the road. I don't believe there is a national DMV database so we would need to hack into the records state by state to see which numbers are still registered. Some went to Canada too. -h

The Vin count is strictly for US cars AFAIK. Not even the Canadian cars are included in that list. As for the color list, I'm pretty sure Mazda had a count but doesn't have a by VIN list for the colors.
